Christmas Nuggets - Ruth Fletcher

2 cups flour                                          
1 tsp salt                                                               
¾ cup shortening                               
¼ cup butter                                        
½ cup powdered sugar
1 tbsp vanilla
1 tsp almond extract
½ cup chopped nuts

Sift together flour and salt.  Cream, shortening, butter and sugar.  Blend in vanilla, almond extract, nuts.  Add dry ingredients gradually, mixing until dough is smooth and well blended.  Make 3½ dozen small balls.  Place on ungreased cookie sheet and flatten with fork.  Top with nuts, colored sugar or coconut before baking, or roll in powdered sugar after baking.  Bake in 325º oven or until lightly browned.
