Chocolate Macaroon Squares - Lucille Rhodes

1 chocolate cake mix                        
⅓ cup butter, softened
2 eggs                                                    
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 tsp vanilla                                         
2 cups chocolate chips
1⅓ cups flaked coconut                    
¾ cup chopped nuts (optional)

Beat cake, butter and 1 egg until mixture us crumbly.  Press into greased 9x13 pan.  Combine condensed milk, remaining egg and vanilla.  Stir in chocolate chips, 1 cup coconut and nuts.  Spread over cake crust.  Sprinkle with remaining coconut.  Bake at 350º for 30-40 minutes or until golden brown.  Center will set when cooled.  Cool in pan. DO NOT CUT WHILE WARM!  Makes about 2 dozen bars.
