2 tsp baking powder
¾ tsp salt
⅓ cup shortening
1 cup sugar
1 egg
⅞ cup milk
1 tsp vanilla
⅓ cup packed brown sugar
1 tbsp cake flour
3 tbsp butter, melted
Sift four once. Add baking powder and salt. Sift together 3 times. Cream shortening. Add sugar gradually and
cream together until light and fluffy.
Add egg and beat very thoroughly. Add
flour mixture, alternately with milk, beating after each addition until
smooth. Add vanilla. Bake
in greased pan 9x9x2 at 350º for 40 minutes.
Mix together brown sugar, cake flour and melted butter. Spread topping on cake. Return to oven for 5 minutes.
