Cream Torte Cake - Lucille Miller O’Connell

½ cup butter, softened                       
½ cup sugar
4 egg yolks                                           
½ cup milk
1 cup flour                                           
1 tsp baking powder
dash salt                                                               
1 tsp vanilla
4 egg whites                                         
1 cup granulated sugar
1 cup milk                                            
1 egg
1 tbsp sugar                                         
1 tbsp cornstarch
1 tbsp vanilla

Use soft butter, add sugar then beat in egg yolks.  Combine milk and dry ingredients alternately.  Add vanilla.  Beat egg whites with granulated sugar.  Spread on top of UNBAKED batters in two pans.  Bake layers at 350º until done.  Combine filling ingredients: 1 cup milk, 1 egg, 1 tbsp sugar, 1 tbsp cornstarch and vanilla and cook until thickened.  Spread between layers when cool.
