Dutch Butter Cookies - Amy Seng

2 cups sugar                                         
1 tsp baking soda
3½ cups flour                                      
½ cup chopped walnuts
1 tsp vanilla                                         
1 cup chopped maraschino cherries
1 lb margarine

Mix together thoroughly and form into rolls.   Wrap in wax paper and chill in freezer.  Slice thin and bake 5-8 minutes at 350º.  Be careful, they burn easily if over baked.
