1½ cups warm water
1 tbsp sugar
1 tsp. salt
4 cups flour
1 egg, beaten
coarse salt
In a
bowl, dissolve yeast in the warm water.
Add sugar, salt and blend in flour.
Turn the dough out onto lightly floured board and knead until smooth. Cut off small pieces and roll into ropes, and
twist into traditional pretzels. Lay on
cookie sheet, brush on beaten egg, and sprinkle generously with
coarse salt. Bake at 425º for 12-15
minutes or until brown. Serve warm.
